Jaunpur
The Sharqi dynasty (1394–1479) ruled the region of Jaunpur, located in modern-day Uttar Pradesh, India, after breaking away from the weakened Delhi Sultanate. Known for their administrative efficiency, military campaigns, and cultural patronage, particularly in architecture and Islamic scholarship, the Sharqi rulers left a lasting legacy in Indian history. The dynasty was founded by Malik Sarwar, a eunuch and former governor of Jaunpur under the Delhi Sultanate. He declared independence in 1394 amidst the political turmoil following the invasion of Timur and the decline of the Tughlaq dynasty.
