Kaushambi - Vatsa

Kaushambi was located on the banks of the Yamuna River, strategically situated along important trade routes connecting Magadha, Mathura, and other regions. Kaushambi served as the capital of the Vatsa Mahajanapada, one of the 16 Mahajanapadas (great kingdoms) mentioned in ancient Indian texts like the Anguttara Nikaya.

• Kaushambi is deeply linked to Buddhism. It is said that the Buddha visited the city several times and delivered sermons there.

• Ashokan Pillar: Emperor Ashoka erected a pillar at Kaushambi, signifying its importance as a Buddhist site.
