Comment :
In the 14th century, the Delhi Sultanate faced financial challenges, including the high costs of maintaining a vast empire and military.
Inspired by the concept of paper currency used in China (under the Yuan dynasty), Muhammad bin Tughlaq decided to introduce token currency in his empire.
Unlike China, where the currency was made of paper, he introduced coins made of base metals like brass and copper, intended to be used as a substitute for silver coins (tanka).
