Comment :
Jalaun is a considerable town in the Bundelkhand region. The fort there was the residence of the subahdars of Jalaun and the seat of the govern-ment. When the British undertook the management of the state in 1838 the administrative centre was moved to Orai. Prinsep, in his Useful Tables lists a Jalaun rupee at 168.80 grains (10.93 gms) and in his remarks states the mint there was established in 1809 and abolished in 1826. The initial output was six lakhs.

On this specimen the mint name is ‘ba Sha Jalaun ‘ (which means by or possessed of Jalaun and Sha which possibly means Shahi) very fine, very scarce.
