These coins have appeared on the market before with varied provenances ranging from Bharatpur to Jaunpur. As such they have been attributed to various ‘Janapadas’ like ‘Matsya’, ‘Maru’ etc but these attributions remain speculative. For an attempt at cataloguing, see article ‘A New Local Type of Early Punch-marked Coins’ by Sharad Sharma and Badri Prasad Verma, in Numismatic Digest vol. 36-37 (2012-2013). The symbols these coins have are entirely geometric and composed of intricate whorls.
