The Sunga dynasty was established in 185 BCE when Pushyamitra Sunga, the commander-in-chief of the last Mauryan emperor, Brihadratha, assassinated him during a military parade.
Sunga Empire initially covered much of the Gangetic plains, including modern-day Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and parts of Madhya Pradesh. The Elephant symbol on these coin is indeed associated with Indra, the king of the gods in Hindu mythology. Specifically, Indra’s vehicle (vahana) is Airavata, a divine white elephant, which is a symbol of strength, wisdom, and royal authority.

All symbols on this specimen are clearly visible, Very Fine, Scarce.
